Hello World! It has been almost two months since we started doing self-isolation. During this time, we should continue to listen to the healthcare guidelines (do not forget to wash your hands!), i.e. we should stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel until further notice for safety purposes. However, it can get boring, staying at home. Building up on this, this post delivers some ideas to keep you entertained or productive, apart from working and/or studying at home.
1. Clean Your Room or Even the House
Cleaning the house right now is incredibly important. So, if you are bored, it is good to clean and disinfect the house to help reduce the risk of getting the virus. Moreover, it is a good way to de-stress and to help your parents around the house.
2. Balance the news input
Being up to date with what is happening in the world is important. However, it is important to acquire the news from reputable and renowned sources, such as CNN or BBC, to name a few, and to limit the amount of news you read. Balancing the two out is integral. After all, we would not want to have false hopes and added frustrations from reading fake news and to be stressed from reading the news too much.
3. Play games Online
There are different websites that can still help you interact with other people. For instance, you can watch or play with your friends or some community. We have included websites that you can visit to do this while staying at home:
Kosmi is a place where you can watch movies, or tv shows, and play SNES online with your friends. No installation needed. The only downside to using Kosmi is that if you have a bad internet connection, you may experience some lagging.
.io games has a wide selection of real-time games, where you are given the opportunity to play with other players from around the world!
Board Game Arena is a place to play board games with your friends or with other players from the Board Game Arena community. From traditional board games to new board game, you name it, BGA has most of them.
4. Talk to your family or friends, virtually or physically!
Spending time with your family (or even get to know them better) or friends in this time is perfect. Bond with your loved ones by watching a movie together, playing games together or even setting some time aside to have a conversation with them physically or virtually though skype, face time, phone, zoom or whatsapp!
Additionally, it is also important to use this time to spend a few moments alone to collect your thoughts, ponder on some stuff or to center yourself in this difficult time.
5. Start an Exercise Routine
Exercising is a good stress reliever and if you are or have been avoiding working out for some time, now is as good as any! It is not mandatory to have some gym equipment at home. Some workouts that do not require this are jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups or even full body workouts like zumba, aerobics, yoga, dance and many more! You can try it with your family too!
But remember to stretch before and after your workouts to prevent or decrease the likelihood of getting an injury!
Feel free to give us some workout recommendations! We could certainly use it after all the time we spend on Netflix.
Watch out for our blog in doing a 30-day yoga challenge!
6. Start Dieting
Staying at home, where you have the kitchen all to yourself is great! You get to snack on anything you can get your hands on whenever you want! But, in doing so, it can lead to some weight gain. Take this time to go on a diet and to accompany the weight loss journey with some exercise!
Also, to avoid going on many grocery runs, it is a good strategy to ration our food, so that we can help our front liners in getting the essentials they need to assist the patients. We can also see this as an opportunity to do some dieting too.
7. Learn new things
If you're used to continuously absorbing new information, now is the time to learn new things or recipes. For instance, you can learn a new language on, for example, Duolingo and LingoDeer, or a new skill that can help you advance your career. There are online courses on many platforms, such as LinkedIn learning, Lynda, Coursera and EdEx, and YouTube tutorials that can help you achieve this goal.
Side note: We, personally, have been into the trendy dalgona coffee recipe! It consists of milk and foamed coffee. It's such a great drink to have while watching a movie or reading a book. Give it a try!
8. Read books
Reading is a good escape that could lead you to different places with the assistance of your imagination. If you are an avid reader and have a lot of books that are to be read, physical or otherwise, now is a great time to give those books a read with dalgona coffee or any beverage of your choice!
As a foodie and adventure seeker, it is hard to not crave food from restaurants or cafes, but we have to control ourselves because life is more important than our cravings. Now is the time to discipline ourselves to be considerate of others and to take better care of our health.
